Orange Coast College’s Yoga Instructor 200-hour certification training is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program which provides students with the skills required to teach yoga to a variety of levels and abilities.  This program meets the requirements for Yoga Alliance, a professional membership and trade association, to become a registered yoga teacher (RYT).

Fall Semester

  • Yoga Methodology 1 (3 units)
    Monday & Wednesday, 6:45pm – 9:15pm

  • Hatha Yoga Level 2 (1 unit)
    Monday & Wednesday, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

  • Theory of Yoga (3 units)
    Tuesday evenings, 6 – 9:10pm

Spring Semester

  • Yoga Practicum (3 units)
    Monday & Wednesday, 6:45pm – 9:15pm

  • Yoga Methodology (3 units)

How much does the program cost?

The OCC Yoga Teacher Training Program costs less than $650 in total. Other typical yoga studio trainings may cost $2,500–$3,500.

Are there any required materials?

Yes. Students will need to purchase two yoga manuals and may also explore recommended texts for additional learning.

How long has the program been offered?

The program has been offered annually since Fall 2017.

What kind of yoga style is taught in the program?

The training primarily follows a Vinyasa/Flow style, but it is also influenced by therapeutic yoga practices, helping students learn how to reduce physical, mental, and emotional discomfort through yoga.

What career opportunities are available after completing the program?

Graduates are prepared for employment in health clubs, spas, yoga and dance studios, hospitals, and other health industry settings. They are also equipped for self-employment as private yoga instructors.

What are the recommended prerequisites?

Students are strongly encouraged to take Hatha Yoga Level 1 before enrolling. Alternatively, six months of consistent yoga practice is recommended.

Can students take classes at their own pace?

The program follows a cohort format. Students are encouraged to take all fall classes together. If they take only 1–2 fall classes, they must wait until the following fall to complete the rest. All fall classes must be completed before taking the spring classes.

Is this program suitable for people who don’t want to teach yoga?

Yes! The training is also ideal for those who want to deepen their personal practice or pursue a career in the health and wellness industry.
